Modaiyur, also known as Mudaiyur, is a Village Panchayat, Polur Taluk, Tiruvannamalai district, located in Tamil Nadu, India.

History of Village

The Village was named after Vijayanagara Emperor won the war. Vijayanagara Emperor before the war have promised the god in Devikapuram Shiva Temple that he will build a temple after winning. Vijayanagara Emperor after his victory forgot to build the temple and returning to his palace. while they return all his force got paralyzed (முடங்கிவிட்டது). Vijayanagara Emperor then decided to build the Temple for Devi Periyanayagi Amman Temple. Then they stayed in the place to carve the sculpture where the force was paralyzed (முடங்கிவிட்டது). Then this place was called as Mudaiyur (முடை + ஊர் = முடையூர்).

The place where the temple is bulild in bottom of Hill is called as Devikezhpuram (தேவிகிழ்புரம்) also known as Devikapuram.

Location

Modaiyur is part of Tiruvannamalai district, Polur Taluk, located in Polur-to-Chetput Road (SH-115). It is part of Thondai mandalam. It is a quiet & calm village with out any industry. People lead a pleasant life by doing Sculpture Carvings and agriculture.

Modaiyur , the village is about 158km(98mi) South-West of Chennai. Also about 45km West of Vandavasi(Wandiwash); 12km East of Polur; 23km South of Arani; 49km North-East of Tiruvannamalai and 57km South-East of Vellore. While going from Vandavasi, after Nedungunam comes Chetpet and in the same road towards Polur(West) comes Modaiyur.
